Living and working in Israel has been a delight for us. The Bridges for Peace community has a wonderful family-ness about it and we have lived alongside fellow Christians who have come from the four corners of the globe.
There is a strong emphasis on prayer and intercession in our team. No decisions are made without the leadership encouraging time out with the Lord.
Ron developed the radio broadcasts which can be heard on the website – www.bridgesforpeace.com. Our news and features are now distributed to Christian broadcasters around the world with more than 500 located in Australia primarily through United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) and Vision FM.
Yvonne maintained the new Dr. David Allen Lewis Memorial Library and was in contact with BFP offices around the world to offer advice and encouragement. In the past year she has worked as personal assistant to Rev Cheryl Hauer, the BFP International Development Director.

We have enjoyed many memorable moments. Our five year term saw three Prime Ministers in office – Ariel Sharon, Ehud Olmert and Benjamin Netanyahu.
One of the major highlights was Bible study in Efrat with Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, founder of the Centre for Christian-Jewish Understanding. Those times were exhilarating. Rabbi Riskin also invited us to his home to share the Shabbat meal with his family.
The Jewish people blessed us in so many ways. People like our dear friend in the IDF who opened doors for Ron and his team to make radio reports from ‘behind-the-scenes.’ Others like the members of the Christian Allies Caucus in the Israeli Parliament (the Knesset) who work on reconciliation between Christians and Jews.
Our home was a small apartment in Anona, a suburb of Jerusalem and an interesting No 7 Bus ride to the city.
Across the street from our home a synagogue and park provided the central location for the weekly Shabbat gathering of Jewish families. This was a memorable experience for us. The hustle and bustle of the daily traffic was replaced each Friday and Saturday with laughing children and cries of “Abba!” (Daddy).
Friday afternoons dads walked proudly to their homes carrying huge bunches of flowers and boxed chocolates to share with their families.
The food in Israel is wonderful. Fresh fruit and vegetables make everyday meals most enjoyable and very healthy.
To live in Jerusalem brings the Bible alive. No day is dull or boring. We will miss the vibrant life in Israel. They are people with hope (their national anthem is about hope “Hatikvah”). Their energy is catching.
We serve them because the Lord chose them as His people and He also said, “Those who bless Israel will be blessed.” We can certainly say “Amen!” to that.
